Review of Navigator of the Seas LA to Cabo San Lucas

Infinity Fun and Travel

I sailed on Royal Caribbean's Navigator of the Seas in September 2022 with my boss for Infinity Fun and Travel or IFAT.  Royal Caribbean invited us to attend a seminar where we could learn more about their ships.

Pre-Cruise Hotel

We flew the day before the cruise and stayed at the Hilton Los Angeles Airport.  It was a very nice hotel, and we were able to shuttle there easily.  We did have to wait to check in since we flew in early and check in isn't till 4:00.  They have a very large lobby with comfortable chairs.  We also went into their restaurant for some food and drink.  The internet was good, and we were able to work while we waited.  The room was large and very nice.  We ordered room service.  It was pricey but the food was good, and it was more than we could eat.

Transfer to ship

Sunday morning, we hired a private transfer to get us to the ship about 40 minutes away.  Our driver was very friendly.  He got us right up to the loading area in front of the ship, so we didn't have to walk far.  We checked our large baggage with the ship porter and got in line.  I didn't get my luggage until late that afternoon.  I had to walk down the hall to find it.  It was ok because I put everything I would need that afternoon in my carry on.

Embarkation

The embarkation line was long but Royal Caribbean had an app to make appointments.  We were in the earliest group, so it went fast.  Once on board we had to wait for our room to be ready.  We went to get some lunch at the Windjammer.  This restaurant has windows all around and we got a table by the window and enjoyed the view of the port.  Then we explored the ship until our room was ready.

The Ship

The ship was beautiful.  It has a large atrium with colorful lights and glass elevators. There are staterooms on several floors with windows that overlook the atrium.  There are stores, lounges, and food you can enjoy and watch all the people going by.

Food

The food was good.  The Windjammer is a buffet style restaurant included in your fare.  It has a variety of food including a separate section with gluten-free food.

There is a Mexican style buffet on deck outside the Windjammer by the pool.  The main dining room is 3 stories and is very elegant.

There are specialty restaurants that cost extra.  You can purchase a dining package before boarding.  We ate lunch at Jamie's Italian.  We got the charcuterie board.  It was good but not my favorite.

We ate dinner at Hooked.  I highly recommend this seafood restaurant.  We had lobster, lobster mac n cheese and cheddar biscuits which were delicious.  The waitstaff was very friendly and gave great service.

Entertainment

We went to the Ice Show one night.  It was a wonderful show.  During the day the ice rink is open to passengers for skating.

We also saw a musical in the theater called Showgirls.  It was very professional, and we really enjoyed it.

We also sat in on a Jazz Festival that was very good.

Besides the shows there are lots of activities on the top deck. The Flow-rider surfing simulator looked like fun (I'm too old to try it). There are giant slides, an escape room, casino, arcades, an exercise facility and a spa.

Shopping

There are different shops on the ship selling jewelry, liquor and souvenirs.  I participated in the charm special.  You buy the bracelet for $5, and they have a different charm each day to put on the bracelet.  It was very cute, and I have added more charms to it.  The shops are closed when in port because it is tax free when on the ocean.

Stateroom

I had a balcony stateroom for the first time and now am spoiled.  It was so nice to be able to sit out and enjoy the view of the ocean in privacy. It was a good-sized room with plenty of storage.  Our stateroom attendant was the best.  He took care of all our needs with such a good attitude.

The bed can be used as a king or twin beds.  We had requested twin beds but it wasn't done so our attendant took care of it for us.  We did have problems with the tv.  The room had a couch to hang out on, so we didn't have to sit on the beds.  Being seniors, we did go rest in our room every afternoon with the sliding door to the balcony open. It was so relaxing.  I have a beautiful picture of the sunrise I took from the balcony.

Medical Emergency

About 2 hours after we left Los Angeles, we noticed a coast guard helicopter flying around the ship.  They were there for a medical evacuation.  The helicopter had to wait for the medical team to get the person ready, then they landed on the pad on the front of the ship to take the person.  It all took a few hours.  The captain then had to speed up the ship to make up for lost time. It felt like we were on a speedboat.

Cabo San Lucas

When we got to Cabo San Lucas, we couldn’t disembark.  Because of a tornado and an earthquake there, the water was too rough for the tender boats.  There is no dock there and you have to get in little tender boats to get to land.  Although, there was another evacuation that had to go in the tender.  The captain moved the ship out to smoother water and anchored overnight.  At 6 am the next morning he went back and they were able to tender to shore.  Since they only had a couple hours we stayed on the ship.  We had a perfect view of the famous rock formations from our balcony and didn't need to take the boat excursion to see them.

Conclusion

All in all, it was a very enjoyable cruise.  There are things that happen and not all of your expectations may be met.  There are things beyond anyone's control.  You just have to be understanding and enjoy what you have.  Like my grandkids say, " get what you get and don't throw a fit!"
