THE FAST WAY TO GET THROUGH TSA SECURITY CHECK AT THE AIRPORT
I hate going through security at the airport. I signed up to get the TSA PreCheck to make it faster. Now American Airlines has teamed with the TSA to make it even easier. American Airlines customers with TSA Precheck can breeze through the airport with just their phone and their face using a Mobile App that enables face recognition.
This is so cool. I always look for ways to make things easier, so I downloaded the app on my phone. Now I can have my identity verified using my phone at certain precheck points at DFW Airport.
Not all airports have this access yet. The testing started at DFW but will soon be available at
Miami International, Phoenix Sky Harbor, Washington Reagan National and more coming soon.
Before downloading the app you will need to have TSA PreCheck.
HOW TO GET A TSA PRECHECK
You can pre-enroll and make an appointment online or walk-in at an enrollment center. Travelers must go in-person to an enrollment center to provide documentation and fingerprints. . It takes 5 minutes to submit an online application and schedule an in-person appointment that includes a background check and fingerprinting at an enrollment center. To pre-enroll and find an enrollment center at tsa.gov click here. The application fee is $85 for 5 years.
If you already have the TSA Precheck you can download the app
HOW TO CREATE MOBIL APP
- Download the Airside Digital Identity App on an IOS or Android device
- Take a photo of your face
- Scan your driver's license or passport with the app *
- Enter your American Airlines Advantage number
The app does the following:
- Verifies the travelers information using mobile ID technology powered by Thales to compare against each state's Deportment of Motor Vehicles records or the passport's embedded NFC chip
- Securely stores the traveler's American Airlines Mobile ID on their Mobile until they choose when and where to share it.
As you go through security you just present a QR code on your phone and consent to share your American Airlines Mobile ID with TSA. After sharing the Mobile ID, you look into a camera located at the TSA PreCheck checkpoint. TSA's computer system matches the your encrypted image against your American Airlines Mobile ID. The whole process literally takes less than five seconds.
Once verified, TSA erases encrypted digital ID from its checkpoint readers and customers retain their digital ID on the device until they are ready to use it at another waypoint, such as the airport lounge.
*Drivers licenses from states that are part of the AAMVA DLDV program and U.S. passports are eligible.
I have the app downloaded and set up on my phone. I haven't had a chance to test it at the airport yet but I have a trip coming up soon so I am ready.
